Lisa Peterson is a life-long Massachusetts resident, and first made the North Shore, and the 6th Congressional District, her home nearly 25 years ago. She lives in Salem with her husband, Scott, and their 10-year-old daughter, Alice. She and her family feel incredibly fortunate to live in this district because of its rich history, beautiful coastline, and vibrant culture.
Lisa has devoted her life to helping individuals and families make ends meet. Her professional background is in personal finance, financial literacy, and budgeting, with a focus on everyday Americans. This inspired her to found Lantern Financial, LLC more than a decade ago, and she’s helped hundreds of younger adults navigate an increasingly complex and challenging financial world. Lisa has also served as a Trustee of her alma mater, Simmons University, which has given her a deeper appreciation of our broken higher education landscape.
From early in her career, Lisa has understood that our economy is built upon systemic inequalities. Each year, our finances get stretched more thinly by policies designed to benefit the wealthy and privileged. No amount of personal financial planning can fix that. The policies themselves need to change.
The 2016 election revealed just how fragile gains made during the Obama era were. Within weeks of the Trump presidency it became evident that we were facing an unprecedented national emergency on many fronts. This realization inspired Lisa to take action.
She started a nationwide online network called ‘Run for Our Lives’ designed to inspire and support progressive women and gender expansive people from all backgrounds to enter politics. Lisa recognized she couldn’t just talk the talk, she needed to step up herself and run for office. She successfully ran for a seat on the Salem City Council and has worked tirelessly to improve the lives of the residents of her city.
While serving on the City Council, Lisa quickly grasped that the challenges we are facing require larger and more complex solutions than can be achieved locally. We need an economy that works for all of us, one that prioritizes affordable housing and education, universal healthcare, and better paying jobs. We need to treat everyone with dignity, no matter what they look like, where they come from or how they love each other. From leading in a coastal district, Lisa appreciates how urgent our climate crisis is. She knows we cannot wait any longer to address it. We need innovative solutions that protect our environment and create good paying jobs.
Lisa realizes that the challenges we face require bold leadership from someone who is focused on the needs of our district. She believes firmly in a government that is of the people, by the people, and she looks forward to passing the microphone to you throughout her campaign to ensure that all of our voices are heard.
